Cape Cod and So Much MORE!

Finley and I went on a great mini-vacation with Pops and Lisa to her sister's Kathy's house in Falmouth on Cape Cod for a few days. What was just thought to be a simple little beach trip turned into one of the most exciting trips I have taken in my pretty well-traveled life (if I do say so myself:)... My brother Scott and I are in the process of validating our relationship to Mayflower passengers Stephen and daughter Constance Hopkins. This project has kind of been on the back burner since Christmas. I was too crazed before we left, only bothering to check the weather... I had just thrown our bathing suits in a bag and picked up the folks having no idea I would be staying not 20 minutes from Plymouth! Well, Pop and Lisa are always up for a good adventure, so we went and checked out the Pilgrim museum and saw my great (times 12) grandmother's beaver skin hat from 1630! Not only that but another grandparent (Thomas Burgess 1603-1685) is buried not 10 minutes away in Sandwich - he came over on another boat to Salem. I did a bunch of research on my iphone - found the cemetery, put the address in the GPS and got in the car. Most tombstones were legible only from the 1800's not before; however someone in the Burgess family had had the tombstones remade in 1917. For someone who didn't know her heritage much beyond a grandfather, I am totally shocked by all this. I will post again when I find out if we do or don't get into the Mayflower Society!

Happy Father's Day!

He had a delicious sleep, the kind where you know you don't have to wake up:) Then blueberry pancakes, then a stroll through the 7th Avenue street fair where he scored a few choice vinyl records, then we went to the studio and brought home the record player and set it up. Nothing has increased Craig's enjoyment of life more than the Bubba except his re-discovery of vinyl records in the last couple years. It was a great day and we hope all you Papas we know and love out there had great ones too!

Some more things to like about Brooklyn....

In a ONE block radius I have my bank, my video store, the coolest toy store ever, a big grocery store, an organic grocery store, a specialty grocery store, a 24 hour deli with amazing flowers, the best Starbucks I ever saw with baby seats on rollers and outdoor space (where a woman named Joannie was stringing blossoms of rose hips and pine cones to give away or bury back in the ground - and had amazing things to say about her art.) Next door to that there is a horse Finley likes to ride. Our building has an overgrown backyard that no one uses and we were able to bring our Aiderondacks. I love that Prospect Park has parts that they are letting return to natural forest. I almost had a Heart Attack! when I happened upon Puppet Works, where they have regular puppet shows. There is a PINKstone on our block. And finally, there are stoop sales going on all the time - we participated in our first one Saturday - it was a block party too. Oh, and Annie - there's a garden all your own waiting here with your name on it. Alas, there is NO Plum Pottery:(

Ahhhh, Brooklyn - I am pinching myself ALL day long.

Birthday BookBerry Baby!

This is Finley's most awesome birthday gift from West Coast Dreyers and just happened to be the only thing I was thinking of buying for the new place because I never had the space for one and LOVE them. It is so fun to snuggle and read books AND it happens to explode into a comfy queen bed too. It even makes time more fun when Craig and I are hanging out near the computer and paying bills, etc. Murray can't believe his luck.

Thanks to the Dreyer kids West - we can have a good time even with a grate! This one's for you, Silas. Hope you feel better:)
