5th Birthday Bliss

It began with a cupcake party in the classroom. The party favors were Pop Rocks and whistles on strings around their necks that they could blow during the parade (though parents are surely seriously hating me right now.) Then we all marched in a boisterous and musical-ish parade through the Brooklyn Botanical garden to the Prospect Park Carousel.  I have known these kids for almost a year but I always see them pretty subdued - waiting in line to go into school or come out and it was totally thrilling to see them running free through the grass and being SO excited. When we arrived at the carousel, it was basically deserted so we had the run of the place for a while. This Carousel is 100 years old this year - it's truly magical. More kids from school showed up and then even more. With siblings and a couple of other kids from her old day school, it ended up being about 20 kids. Jayda, Shafiett, Danicia, Caylee, Malaysia (yes.), Jeanaya, Nazir, Richard, Ethan are just a few of the names I want to remember. After the Carousel we went to the Lefferts House for some serious Olden Days play. Then we said goodbye to all the friends and Craig, Finley and I went to the Sean Casey Animal Rescue Center. We picked out TWO little Gerbils for this long-awaited and much-planned-for present. They are VERY cute. Both girls, one is big one is little. Gerbil blog coming later soon. The whole day was terrific and I think Finley will remember it when she's 85:)
