Before All Else Fails

I found this beautiful vintage sewing machine at the dump and lugged it home. An internet search and a few days later, I had the manual. It's a tank and it does work. Thing is I HAVE NO FRIGGIN IDEA what I'm doing - manual or not. I need to take it to a sewing shop (? do those exist? I don't know!) and get a few of the accessories that it no longer has and some needles and thread and stuff. Until then, things are getting done my way. I believe they call this style "by hook or by crook":)

Manual...

I inherited a beautiful Singer sewing machine about 7 years ago. It was all together and I used it until the thread on the bobbin ran out. I couldn't figure out how to rethread the thing and after finding online instructions, being unable to decipher the threading process and feeling frustrated and slightly simple, I just decided that the machine would be a very lovely, somewhat romantic symbol of what I'd like to someday take the reins of...
Whenever anyone comes by who knows how to work a sewing machine, I open it up and ask for visual instruction. Somehow, even the experts (who all say it's very easy), have never managed to re-thread my bobbin!
That being said, feel no shame if the years go by and you find you have a great ornament in your home shaped like a sewing machine.
And if you do figure it out, send me the duct tape. I'll still be patching things together willy-nilly!!!

Thanks Caline - great story, made me feel better:) I tried to comment on your blog and could NOT not matter how hard I tried...

here is my comment to the post with the Prayer...

I don't live in Colorado anymore partly because I can NOT take that cold (and dryness - everybody looks like a shrunken apple head to me:) but I did not make the correct move to escape the cold. Northeast! However, I now own gortex! Great prayer, always so hard to remember - so it makes the perfect mantra. I love your blog and look forward to meeting you someday too!
